Preparing Your Quilt Top

-Your quilt top must be square. If borders are not attached correctly, there may be fullness that interferes with the quilting, causing puckers and/or pleats. To avoid ripples or tucks in the quilt top, please measure the borders before sewing them onto the top. Laying your quilt top flat, measure the quilt top vertically in three places (2 sides, plus the center). Take the average of these three measurements for the side borders of quilt. After adding the borders on the sides, take the horizontal measurement the same way and apply.

If you have questions about how to square a quilt, YouTube has several examples. A good one by Handi-Quilter can be found here.

-Your quilt top must be flat, free of holes, and it cannot have any embellishments.

-Quilt tops should not have any loose, trailing threads on the right side or on the wrong side. Threads will shadow through light colored fabrics. I do my best to try to catch these, but once quilted they cannot be removed.

-If your quilt top has a direction top/bottom, identify the top edge with a safety pin.

-I am unable to perfectly center your quilt top on the backing.

-Reminder, the maximum width quilt top I can accept is 120 in.

Batting

-You may purchase legacy 80/20 batting from me at a cost of $5 per square yard or provide your own quality quilting batting.

-If you provide your own batting, you must make sure it is at least 8 inches larger than your quilt top both width and length. Example: if quilt top is 60" by 90", your batting and backing must be at least 68" by 98".

Backing

-Your quilt backing must lay flat and be at least 8 inches larger (both width and length) than your quilt top. (Example above)

-I highly recommend using wide 108-in fabric for your backing in order to avoid having a seam.

-If your backing fabric has a direction (up/down), please put a safety pin at the top edge.

-I will piece your backing together for a charge of $10 per seam.

-If you piece your own backing, use a 1/2 inch seam allowance, pressed open. Before sewing, cut the selvage off where a seam will be sewn, but leave salvage on outer edge of quilt backing as it aids in mounting the quilt on the frame.

-Reminder: I am unable to perfectly center your quilt top on the backing fabric.
